Jim Bleeke and Carol Dillon tried a case in federal court in December and received a defense verdict for their client. The case had been worked-up entirely by another firm and the client transferred the case to BDC to take to trial. The case involved a death that the Plaintiff initially thought was related to an instance of severe hypoglycemia, but as expert discovery progressed, the Defendants’ experts found that the death was due to a sudden cardiac event related to the decedent’s long-standing and severe coronary disease and had nothing to do with low blood sugar. After a three day trial, six fact witnesses, three expert witnesses, and videotape evidence, the jury deliberated for just 30 minutes before returning a verdict in favor of BDC’s client. The jurors commented after trial that Jim and Carol were “impressive” and “very well-prepared.” One juror commented that the Plaintiff’s expert was “junior varsity” compared to the Defendants’ experts. BDC is thrilled to achieve such a great result for its client.
